The discipline that makes this work is simple: no shared codes, every code tied to a person and a schedule, and a review of the code list every few months. A lock with eleven active codes and no one remembering who holds seven of them is not a security device.

Integrating with rental platforms

If the house is on a short-term rental platform, the guest code can be generated from the booking automatically. The connection runs through the lock maker's own integration or through a third-party connector service that sits between the platform and the lock. The booking comes in, a code is created for those dates, the guest receives it in their arrival message, and it stops working at checkout. Turnover cleaners can receive their own automatic codes tied to the checkout date.
